ORIGIN/STORIES OF TAMUGAN RIVER IN THE ANCESTRAL DOMAIN OF OBU MANUVU IN TAMBOBONG, DAVAO CITY (ENGLISH TRANSLATION)

Updated: Nov 28, 2025

TAMUGAN RIVER (TAMOHAN)

The name comes from the word “Tamohanan” or “Sugatanan”, meaning a meeting place.

In the past, this small river served as a gathering place for different tribes including the Obu Manuvu, Bagobo Klata, Bagobo, Tagabawa, and Ata. The tribe met there to trade various products from their respective communities such as woven cloth (binaw), clothing, salt, bolos (sundang), spices, meat, and other goods.

What a beautiful homage to the Tamugan River and its importance to the Obu Manuvu community! I felt reminded of my own childhood adventures along local rivers, where nature intertwined with cultural stories. Escape Road, It's essential we safeguard such heritage for future generations. Thank you for sharing this insightful perspective!
