the philippine eagles in singapore
Philippine Eagles Geothermica and Sambisig pioneered the first international loan program for the species between the Philippines through the DENR and Singapore through the Wildlife Reserves Singapore (WRS) under the Wildlife Loan Agreement signed on May 20, 2019 at the DENR Central Office in Manila. The pair was transported from Manila to Singapore last June 4, 2019 on board Philippine Airlines flight PR 507.

The Philippine Airlines with the Philippine Eagle Foundation hosted a send-off ceremony for Geothermica and Sambisig attended by Asec Ricardo Calderon, DENR OIC Assistant Secretary for Staff Bureau and Director, in concurrent capacity, for Biodiversity Management Bureau, DFA- Office for Asia and Pacific Affairs Assistant Secretary Mr. Meynado LB. Montealegre, Executive Director Mr. Josel Ignacio, Director Mr. Marford Angeles and Assistant Director Mr. Jan Wenceslao. Also in attendance were Singapore Ambassador to the Philippines H.E Gerard Ho Wei Hong and first secretary Huang Zi, Atty. Allan Barcena, Head of Corporate Social Responsibility and Ms. Regina Victoria Pascual, OIC Head of Corporate Support Function of the Energy Development Corporation, and the PEF Trustees Mr. Edgar Chua, Chairman, Mr. Jaime Bautista, PEF Vice Chairman and President/COO of Philippine Airlines, and Ms. Felicia Atienza, President. The eagles were also given facsimile passports by the DFA!

Upon arrival at the Changi airport, the Philippine Eagles with the PEF staff Domingo Tadena, Consultatnt for the PEF Conservation Breeding Program and Dominic Tadena, Senior Animal Keeper, were warmly welcomed by the Wildlife Reserves Singapore and Jurong Bird Park officials led by Dr. Luis Neves Director of Zoology at WRS with Anais Tritto, Curator of Birds, Jurong Bird Park's Deputy Head Keeper Peter Teo, and Junior Avian Keeper Kimberly Wee.

Geothermica and Sambisig’s temporary enclosure at the Jurong Bird Park has a width of 16 ft, length of 120 ft and a height of 37 ft which gives them a lot of room to move around. The enclosure has a secure partition in between as the birds are still under pairing process. The pair’s diet includes white rat and goat meat.
